During this trip, we hope you enjoy a fully-immersed tasting experience of the local terroir, as found in the wine, cheese, meats, fish and seafood, olives, fruits, coffee, bread,  firewood and many other products.

At home, you will find a small sample of the food culture the island has to offer.

A few steps from the house, you can find two favourite local restaurants, Boca Negra and Rocha, which specialize in fish stew and alcatra.

Most places open from 12 to 3 and then at 7 pm for the dinner service. Please check and reserve if you want to be sure.

In Angra do Heroismo, the main city, you will find a varierty of places. Food streets such as Rua de Sao Joao or Rua Direita are worth a visit.

The fishing village, of Sao Mateus, about 4-5 kilometers away, the largest fishing port on the island, has great fresh seafood, as you would expect. This is the town where my mom is from and where we spent most summers. Our family home is the one right behind the whale museum, in black and white.

Of course, there are many good restaurants all around the island including Beira Mar, Restaurante das Doze Ribeiras, Caneta, and Fonte das Sete Bicas.

For wine lovers, we recommend spending some time in Biscoitos, one of Portugal's oldest, protected wine regions, which at its peak supplied the Portuguese navigators and many royal courts across Europe and the Americas. There are several wineries, including small, local producers, and a strong coop (Cooperativa), a Museum, all done on top of lava.
